The authorities of Montenegro said that from 2022 the country will stop extending the program for granting citizenship of the country in exchange for investment, which expires by the end of the year.
The program was assessed as not profitable and its extension is likely to slow down the accession of Montenegro to the European Union.
Also, by the end of this year, the authorities should decide on the introduction of a new citizenship issuance program, which excludes the issuance of the country's citizenship at birth.
